Chinese Christianity's Explosive Growth

The most important global news story of the twenty first century is probably the explosive growth of Christianity in China. By 2030, China will have more active Christians than America. The spiritual vacuum at the heart of China's increasingly consumerist society will only accelerate the growth, as will China's slowing economy and increasing wealth gap. One source:
"Alternative sources of socialization and belief are growing in importance in China. These do not often take expressly political forms, however, because of the threat of repression. In the countryside, peasants have replaced portraits of Mao and other Communist heroes with statues of folk gods and ancestor worship tablets... In the cities, popular culture, including gigantic rock concerts, shapes youth attitudes much more profoundly than party propaganda. Consumerism ('buying things') is probably the most widely shared value in China today. Many observers have spoken of a moral vacuum in Chinese society, which is not uncommon in countries undergoing such rapid, multifaceted change."
Having lived in China and interacted with Chinese Christians, I've come to believe Christianity will eventually dominate China's religious landscape if it can avoid the temptation to become political. Chinese Christians, and outside Christians supporting them, should NOT challenge the Communist Party's authority or legitimacy nor flaunt their laws about church buildings or public crosses. It's my opinion that Christians should support the CCP as much as possible in order to integrate Christianity within Chinese society.
